One of Zimbabwe’s pioneers of free-range chicken farming, Nhema Chickens and Hatcheries (Private) Limited is in the process of recruiting interested poultry farmers to join its roadrunner contract farming program.

The program will commence in August this year.

In a notice published on its Facebook page, Nhema Chickens is seeking poultry farmers capable of raising 200 chickens or more to submit applications for consideration.

The program seeks to raise Boshvelds, Sasso, Koekeok, Black Australorp, White Plymouth, Buff Orpington, Light Sussex, Jersey Giants, and Brahma chickens among others.

Contract farming benefits on offer:

As part of the contract farming arrangement, Nhema Chickens and Hatcheries (Private) pledges to offer the following:



  • supply of good quality chicks at a cost
  • offer technical advice and assistance from brooding to maturity
  • free veterinary support services for any challenges with chicks bought from the company
  • guaranteed market for eggs and chickens – company will buy fertilized eggs from USD5 per crate depending on breed

As part of the registration process, the company will carry out inspection and verification of poultry sites to assess suitability.

The company’s drive is to create sustainable linkages with like-minded poultry farmers and promote self employment in the country.
