The World Egg Day is celebrated on the second Friday in October every year. The day was founded by the International Egg Commission (IEC) at a conference held in Vienna in 1996. The idea behind the day was to raise global awareness of the important place eggs have in human nutrition.
Many countries, including Zimbabwe now participate in World Egg Day by hosting events and activities to commemorate the value of eggs and raising awareness on the benefits of regular consumption of eggs.
Eggs are a good source of low calorie, high-quality protein. Eggs also provide vitamin B and D which are essential nutrients for one’s health.
Eggs have also contributed immensely to economic growth and changing people’s lives through the provision of employment to players who supply fertilised and table eggs.
