In a welcome development announced this afternoon by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, lockdown restrictions announced on 2 January 2021 have been reviewed as follows:

  • Curfew now from 10pm to 5am.
  • Exemption letters no longer required.
  • Supermarkets to operate until 7pm.
  • Industry allowed to open with strict adherence to World Health Organisation guidelines.
  • SMEs, food markets, and the informal sector to reopen.
  • Schools, Universities, and Colleges to prepare for reopening and observe WHO protocols. Virtual learning encouraged where possible.

  • Intercity travel can now resume, bus operators to ensure regular disinfection of buses.
  • Funeral gatherings to remain at 30 people, all other gatherings must not exceed 50 people.
  • Restaurants to open for takeaways and deliveries only. No sit-ins allowed.
  • Bars, nightclubs, and gyms to remain closed.
  • Bottle stores to open for takeaways only.

The President advised a Statutory Instrument will be issued soon to clarify on these measures.

Unfortunately, the issue of opening borders was not mentioned in the announcement.

If you have been waiting for the lockdown to be removed to start or expand your poultry project, this is the time to work on your vision. All the best!
