Welthungerhilfe is one of the largest, privately-held, non-denominational and politically independent German non-governmental organisations in the area of development co-operation and emergency relief. Primarily in co-operation with local partner organisations, its task is to contribute to improved income and nutrition for the poorest rural populations in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Welthungerhilfe has been implementing projects in Zimbabwe almost continuously since 1980. Currently the organisation together with its partners has projects in 5 Provinces. Sector focus is on Food and Nutrition security including WASH, and when necessary Emergency response.
Under the Zimbabwe Agricultural growth program (ZAGP) is the Inclusive Poultry Value Chain (IPVC) Project which seeks to improve the poultry value chain in Zimbabwe. The project is set to run for 3 years in 5 areas of Zimbabwe, Harare, Gweru, Bulawayo and Mutare. The project is being led by COSPE supported by consortium partners which are Sustainable Agricultural Trust SAT, The Livestock and meat advisory council (LMAC) and Cultivating new frontiers in agriculture (CNFA). Welthungerhilfe will be implementing extension and development and will be also providing ICT solutions and developing digital platforms to strengthen performance at every level.
Position summary
To give Support to Field activities in the poultry value chain in Masvingo cluster with the aim of improving on the effectiveness and productivity of small scale to medium scale poultry farmers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Poultry farmers identification, registration and verification; Technical trainings and support visits of farmers to ensure good agricultural practices; Help in development of poultry business associations in the cluster; Assist in the establishment of green technologies to poultry farmers; Support and participate in the development and establishment of poultry value chains; Identification of lead farmers, feed formulation cropping inputs distribution and monitoring; Stakeholder coordination and appraisal of project progress; Reporting (weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly on activities); Any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, skills and experience required:
Diploma or Degree in Agriculture/Animal Science;2 years’ experience in agriculture extension with relevance in poultry value chains (poultry production, feed, poultry drugs, processing or marketing), Drivers’ license and being able to ride a motorcycle.
